Summer Staff Opportunities Print E-mail

Do you like working in the outdoors and enjoy interacting with grade school and middle school age young people?  If you do, we have a job for you!!!

Summer StaffAll young adults, 16 and over, are invited to apply for a summer site staff job at Pilgrim Park. Summer staff has the opportunity to work outdoors on Pilgrim Park’s 140 acres of wooded hills and streams.  Our summer staff serve as lifeguards, supervise canoeing and paddle boats, lead high ropes, take our campers on creek walks, help with construction and maintenance projects, work in the kitchen, clean and maintain buildings, build fires, lead songs, and at times may serve as counselors with our campers.  We value staff members who are cooperative team players and who carry their weight in both work and fun.  Last year’s summer staff said four things about their summer at Pilgrim Park; they did a lot of work, had even more fun, learned and grew a good deal, and made many strong friendships.  If you are considering a career working with people, summer camp experience is an impressive addition to resumes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Summer StaffWe expect our staff members to work as a team supporting each other and completing their share of the work—both the fun parts and the routine tasks.
  • It is important that you work well with all ages of people, treating them in a welcoming and respectful manner.  As a United Church of Christ camp, we welcome and value all people, not just those who are acceptable to mainstream America.
  • Are you willing to be a friend?

Certification

Summer Staff
  • One of our top priorities at Pilgrim Park Camp is safety.  All members of our site staff receive free training and certification in First Aid, CPR, and Life Guarding.
  • Members of the summer staff are also trained to lead the low initiatives course and the high ropes.  Training is provided in canoeing, archery, and creek walks.
  • We need our staff to be functional in as many of these activities as possible, but recognize that there may be one of these that does not fit your physical capabilities.

Living Arrangements

Summer StaffFree lodging and food are part of your compensation package.  You would live in a 15 year old home that previous summer staffs have found to be comfortable and much nicer than they expected.  You would eat your meals in our dinning hall—most campers say that their food is good—the difference is that our cooks pride themselves on preparing really good food.  Each year we have international students working on summer staff, so you have the opportunity to have friends from other parts of the world.

Dates

Summer staff arrives on June 15th and are finished on August 15th.  The first week of summer staff training is mandatory—that is when you would be certified for the key leadership roles.
